MAINTAINING NATURAL STONE

GRANITE
Natural stone is one of the easiest surfaces to maintain.
Granite is an igneous rock, meaning that at one time during it’s development it was melted like volcanic lava, remaining in the Earth where it cooled and crystallized.
Granite is heat resistant, nearly impossible to scratch, will not stain under normal use if sealed properly, does not harbor bacteria, is not affected by citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, wine, etc., and with proper care can last forever. It adds market value to a home, is featured in home décor and architecture magazines on a regular basis and is regarded for it’s luxurious beauty, durability and functionality. Each piece is a one of a kind, purely natural work of art. Read further to learn how to protect it.
General day-to-day cleaning
We advise using a mild cleaning agent, such as anti-bacterial dish soap, warm water and a sponge. If you need to use a stronger cleanser, use one specifically manufactured for granite. Avoid water spots, streaks and dullness by buffing off the wet surface with a dry cloth.
Avoid using any cleaning products that contain ammonia. Also avoid acidic, abrasive, wax or bleach-based household cleaners and sprays.
How to tell if your granite is properly sealed
Apply a small amount of water to your granite countertop. Let sit for 15 minutes. If the area grows dark that means the granite is absorbing the water and needs to be resealed. Allow the granite to dry before doing so.
Sealing
All of our granite is professionally sealed upon installation. We use a high quality sealer to ensure ultimate protection against stains. We recommend that you re-seal your granite once a year with a non toxic stone sealer for polished granite. Granite is a porous material and if not properly sealed it may stain. The process is simple and inexpensive. Most products come with step-by-step instructions.
